Join us at the Urban Futures Symposium, an event celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Urban Energy Systems Laboratory at Empa, the Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Science and Technology. This symposium brings together researchers, policymakers, and practitioners to explore innovative strategies and ideas for the future of cities. Our team will be participating by hosting a workshop and showcasing our work in an exhibition, demonstrating our contributions to shaping sustainable urban landscapes.
The Urban Futures Symposium is a two-day event on September 1–2, 2025, dedicated to empowering the next generation of urban innovators. Hosted by the Urban Energy Systems Laboratory (UESL) at Empa, this symposium celebrates a decade of impactful research in urban systems. The event will feature visionary keynotes, interactive workshops, research presentations, and panel discussions focused on creating decarbonized, resilient, and equitable cities.
The event will explore a range of critical urban themes, including energy, mobility, built environments, and resource efficiency. These topics will be examined through cross-cutting lenses such as technology, policy, and societal impact. The goal is to foster integrated thinking and bridge the gap between research and practical implementation.
