Module Updates and News

Architectural Cognition in Practice

- We have three new interns joining us - Sanya Dixit, Dinesh Sukumar and Bo Pan.

- Yuqin and Freyaan are representing ACP at the Space Syntax conference in Cyprus.

- Lara presented her research at the iNAV symposium in Italy.

Resource-Efficient Urban Intensification

- Discussion of the paper "The price of silence" by Marianna Magagnoli, Filippo Tassinari, and the 13th European Meeting of the Urban Economics Association by Einar.

- Einar has visited Principal Investigator Peter Egger in Zurich to work on the WP2 model.

Dense and Green Cities

- An abstract submitted for the ASim2024 (Asia Conference of International Building Performance Simulation Association 2024) titled - "Decoding Street Images for Outdoor Environmental Analysis : An In-depth Investigation of View Factors for Sky, Greenery, and Buildings" has been accepted and the team will be working on the full paper in the coming months.

- Anjanaa presented 'Verticality in Urban Spaces: Analysing Seating Preferences and the Spatial Network: Understanding patterns of spatial accessibility, visibility characteristics, and occupancy of multilevel public seating spaces' on behalf of Freyaan Anklesaria (ACP), Yuqin Zhong (ACP), Xuan Zhang (DEN), and Thomas Schroepfer (DEN) at the 14th Space Syntax Symposium this week.

Powering the City

- Jidong Kang from our Singapore team has reached out to URA regarding a current research collaboration with the CKG team on Urban Planning Regulations and their implications for Energy Systems designing (including BIPV). Jidong is now preparing for a meeting with URA.

- A paper co-authored by Jidong Kang and in collaboration with his previous team at FRS has published a paper titled "A distributionally robust optimization model for BIPV expansion planning under demand and solar irradiance uncertainty" at Applied Energy. https://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm?abstract_id=4743072

Urban BioCycles Mycelium Digitalisation

- BIO Zurich: New journal article online authored by Tiziano Derme, Francis Schwarze and Benjamin Dillenburger. The article " Understanding the Role of Controlled Environments forProducing Mycelium-bound Composites: AdvancingCircular Practices for Integrating Biotechnology into theConstruction Industry " has been published on the Journal Global Challenges.

Agropolitan Territories of Monsoon Asia

- Our submission to run a ur-scape workshop at Singapore Design Week has been accepted by the DesignSingapore Council. The workshop will take place between 26 Sep to 6 Oct 2024 and we are collaborating with Participate In Design (P!D) on it. The aim of the workshop is to train practitioners on the use of ur-scape and evidence-based participatory design methods. https://sdw.designsingapore.org/

- Our LinkedIn and YouTube links for last week's post are up: Recap: Our ur-scape team, working on a collaborative project funded by the Asia Development Bank, just returned from a capacity-building workshop in Rajasthan, India.

Potential Agriterritories: Agrarian Questions under Planetary Urbanisation and Agroecological Transitions

- Our MAS in Urban and Territorial Design was successfully concluded last Thursday with the Showcase Review, which took place at the Grün Stadt Zürich Gutsbetrieb Juchhof with guest reviewers Naomi Hanakata (NUS), Joachim Declerck (Architecture Workroom Brussels), James Melsom (UTS), Nitin Bathla and Christian Schmid (ETH), Anja Frost and Bernhard Koch, Grün Stadt Zürich.

Adaptive Mobility, Land Use and Infrastructure

- We are preparing the next symposium on 'AI for smart mobility' on July 3rd 2024, as part of the event of FCLG exhibition at the URA Centre. The symposium will be held in person, and we will invite four speakers from academia (NUS, NTU, SMU) to share their research on the frontier of AI-centred transport studies. Detailed information regarding the speakers and their proposed talks could be found following the link.

The Sea-​City Interface

- Pengyuan's paper "Sensing Urban Traffic: A Graph-based Human-centred GeoAI Approach for Traffic Accident Forecasting" has been submitted to Accident Analysis and Prevention

Engagement Platform

EP SG Team is working on the following:

1. Data analytics framework that will better help us identify the goals and motivations of the users of the Engagement Platform. Example include mapping user journeys, goal completions and identifying drop offs.

2. GlobalViews Instance migration to Singapore. Given this will be used internally and data concerns mostly are from Singapore.

3. Dataverse - Testing of Global Accelerator to enhance Networking connectivity by our users from outside of SG and Zurich. This is following the feedback from Evi who shared that feedback on speed of access for her Team members accessing from India.

News and Views

Future Cities Laboratory Global

- The FCL Global Exhibition will be reinstated at URA Centre on 01 July 2024 for a month. The duration provides a fantastic opportunity for the modules to reach out to their collaborators, stakeholders, potential partners to showcase the current research and discuss future directions. Modules can spread the word, organise research module scale tours or sharing at the venue during this period.

- There are fringe events being planned during the month to engage the audience and stakeholders. The first event will be on 03 July (Wednesday), 1:30 - 6:00 pm at URA on the theme of 'AI for Mobility'. Please keep a lookout for the events and participate actively to make it a successful and learning journey for all!

- The FCL Global Leadership has created an email banner for the event and suggest if all FCL Global community could include it in their email signatures for the month of July to help publicise the event. The image is shared on the Slack / Teams community for easy access.
