Participate with Data is a workshop that offers a framework for evidence-based participatory design by combining P!D’s established participatory design approaches with FCL’s open-source planning support tool “ur-scape”. Following the workshop, studio tours to FCL or P!D will be held (subject to selected workshop date).

As urban problems become more complex, collaboration between different fields of expertise is increasingly important to propose effective solutions to these issues today. While data-driven planning can help identify gaps and potentials in urban systems, traditional methods of analysis can overlook or be limited in representing the diverse perspectives of different stakeholders. How can we facilitate community engagement and participation through data?
“Participate with Data” seeks to mitigate these issues by proposing a framework to make data more accessible and interactive to facilitate increased engagement and transparency of sharing information with stakeholders. By combining Participate in Design’s (P!D)’s established participatory design approaches with “ur-scape”, Future City Laboratory (FCL) Global’s open-source planning support tool, participants will be empowered with a framework for evidence-based participatory design.
The programme consists of 3 parts: an interactive lecture about the framework; application of this knowledge in a scenario-building workshop inspired by “The Loveable Singapore Project”; and a studio visit to FCL or P!D.
There will be 2 identical workshops held in different venues and at different days, to provide greater accessibility to different planning and design professionals working in different locales.
