Module Updates and News

Architectural Cognition in Practice

- Multiple papers have been accepted for the Space Synax conference. 

- We ran a module-wide workshop on future research directions.

Semantic Urban Elements: Linking Urban Analytics, Design, and Usage for Cyber-Physical Cities

- Research continues as usual. 

- Our postdoc and coordinator Matias Quintana presented his expertise on on-site data collection at the PhD sharing session 

- Our postdoc, Chenyi Cai, is invited as a Young Leader to participate in the Young Leaders Symposium (YLS) which is a key highlight of the 9th edition of the World Cities Summit (WCS) held in Singapore from 2 to 4 June 2024, nominated by FCL G.

Resource-Efficient Urban Intensification

Tianyu Dong has submitted a conference paper to the Conference of Complex Systems (CCS 2024), titled 'Self-organized, globally optimal, and real-world urban transportation networks - similarities and discrepancies', Tianyu Dong, Jiazu Zhou, Markus Schläpfer

Circular Future Cities

- Shuyan Xiong is currently research visiting the Singapore hub of the team and preparing for the presentation of CAADRIA conference which will take place in SUTD next week.

Agropolitan Territories of Monsoon Asia

- ADB team (Joshua Vargas, Niraly Mangal, together with PI Stephen Cairns) is preparing for a trip to Rajasthan, India to run a workshop for local governments on the use of urscape for integrated planning.

Potential Agriterritories: Agrarian Questions under Planetary Urbanisation and Agroecological Transitions

Many module members are currently in Honolulu at the AAG, and most researchers from both Zurich & Singapore hubs will contribute either online or in person to the 4 sessions on Extended Urbanisation organised by PI Christian Schmid and Nitin Bathla, all on Saturday, 20th April:

Session 1: Towards Vocabularies of Urbanization (Schmid),

Session 2: Urbanization and State Strategies (Schmid, Bathla, Couling),

Session 3: Urbanization and Peripheralization (Markaki, Couling, Schmid);

Session 4: Urbanization and Operationalization of Agricultural Territories (Katsikis, Inagaki, Hortig & Hanakata).

Adaptive Mobility, Land Use and Infrastructure

- Arnór Elvarsson present at the Urban Research Seminar on April 17. His presentation is titled, “Mapping, reviewing and improving the planning process for transport infrastructure in Canton Zürich.” The work he is presenting had the objective of identifying ways that we can improve infrastructure planning processes, ultimately making them more responsive.

- Prof Prateek Bansal has a new journal publication 'A New Flexible and Partially Monotonic Discrete Choice Model' published in Transportation Research Part B.'

- Jin Rui Yap has her PhD research proposal finalised and is preparing her Aptitude Colloquium examine in the next months.

- Charging infrasteucture planning literature review paper has finalised the first round internal circulation, while the proof-of-concept paper is closing to consolidating reviews of all co-authors.

- Meeting with IRAS for project's collaboration this Friday from 1 pm to 3 pm

- Start outreaching collaborators to discuss collaborations opportunity applying for AI for Urban Cooling Singapore-South Korea Joint Grant

- Start outreaching collaborators to discuss collaborations opportunity with research projects in CFI.

- Prof. Peter Molnar and Jovan Blagojevic are attending the EGU conference in Vienna, Austria, where Jovan will present his work within the FCL project under the title "Comparative Urban Pluvial Flood Risk Assessment: A Globally Applicable Workflow for Data-Scarce Environments"

Comparative Ecology of Cities

- Jing Wang's research abstract on 'Causal machine learning unveils the impact of urban form on local economic vibrancy' has been accepted for an oral presentation at the 31st Conference of the International Seminar in Urban Form.

- Yeshan Qiu's research abstract on 'Understanding the Effect of Urban Pattern on Urban Avian Biodiversity' has been accepted for a poster at British Society of Ecology 2024. 

- Dengkai Chi's research abstract on 'Greenspace configuration and mortality in six million Swiss adults: a longitudinal study' has been accepted for an oral presentation at the 36th Annual Conference of the International Society for Environmental Epidemiology.

- Yeshan Qiu is working on a review paper about urban pattern and avian biodiveristy, first draft finished.
