Module Updates and News

Dense and Green Cities

- The team has submitted an abstract for the 5th Asia Conference of International Building Performance Simulation Association 2024. The paper is titled ' Decoding Street Images for Outdoor Environmental Analysis: An In-depth Investigation of View Factors for Sky, Greenery, and Buildings.'


Circular Future Cities

- This week Carlo Schmid and Stefanie Hellweg are attending Gordon Research Conference and Seminar on Action-Oriented Industrial Ecology Science in Switzerland. Carlo presented a poster "How to extend archetype-based building material stock models with machine learning classification".

- Rudi Stouffs has been appointed as the President at CAADRIA

- the association for Computer-Aided Architectural Design Research in Asia (CAADRIA).

- Deepika Raghu is back in Zurich after her half a year stay as a visiting researcher in Stanford.

- Meliha Honic will be leaving the CFC in the end of May. We wish her all the best in her future career!

Powering the City

- in Zurich Hub, there will be final presentations of the “Design for Climate” architectural design studio, led by Prof. Arno Schlüter with various other professors from the department of Architecture at ETH. Feel free to join the event: Open Space in HIB, Hoenggerberg, 8:00 - 12:00 am

- Singapore Hub was in touch with SERIS regarding high-resolution solar data sharing of Singapore (15-min time resolution and 5km spatial resolution). SERIS has agreed on sharing the data with us, but it will take some time to prepare the formalities

- the World Cities Summit (WCS) Science of Cities Symposium is happening this Sunday, 2nd June. Kang Jidong and Yean Seanglidet are preparing for that. Our poster session will be at 1-2pm SGT

- Jiazu Zhou is currently in New York to work more closely with Prof Markus Schlaepfer

Urban BioCycles Mycelium Digitalisation

BIO Zurich: This week Tiziano and Selina will go to Empa and bring acoustic samples to do some pre-testing. The intent is to test out a new sample holder and identify any other limitations to the acoustic testing they plan to do with an impedance tube.

BIO SG: URA has reached out to us to collaborate on featuring the elephant skin-inspired mycelium tiles at their booth during WCS 2024. This is in conjunction with the theme of their booth, which is about innovations in the industry to cool our built environment.

Agropolitan Territories of Monsoon Asia

- We welcome our new postdoctoral researcher, Agustin Escobar, who has a background in mechatronics, sustainable development and agroecology.

Resilient blue-green infrastructures

- Constance Brouillet in Antananrivo to develop the serious games for workshops with stakeholders in Autumn 2024.

- Luc schmid in Zürich in June.

- Design communication video in the making.

- Comment paper in Nature Water in the making.

The Sea-​City Interface

- All research activities goes well.

- We start a new collaboration with IRAS, NDA preparation is undergoing

Comparative Ecology of Cities

- We held a two-day internal project workshop with 16 project members. On the first day, research staff gave presentations about their research progress; on the second day, the team had a fruitful discussion on the synthesis across the five work packages and the preparation for design studios.

- The team submitted four abstracts to the CREATE Symposium.
