Semantic Urban Elements: Linking Urban Analytics, Design, and Usage for Cyber-Physical Cities

Powering the City

  • PI Singapore hub Prof Francis Bu Sung Lee was visiting Zurich this week and we discussed our forthcoming BIPV roundtable event to be conducted this October. He also met with Prof Markus Schläpfer who is also in Zurich currently.
  • We are hosting a visiting PhD student from Weimar, Germany, in our Zurich group for August. He will be conducting thermal experiments in our mini-TABS-thermal chamber and we will be collaborating on physics-informed machine learning for envelope characterization.
  • We have received review results for two of our journal papers: One led by PhD student Justin McCarty, on high-resolution PV modeling, and one led by Dr. Alina Galimshina on a parametric tool to assess carbon emissions of PV panels. Feedback for both reviews were constructive and we are now revising the papers. Preprints are available online (see links)

Urban BioCycles Mycelium Digitalisation

A new journal article titled, "Manipulating fungal growth in engineered living materials through precise deposition of nutrients" by Jia Heng Teoh, Eugene Soh and Hortense Le Ferrand has been accepted for publication in the International Journal of Bioprinting.

From 6-7 August, Principal Investigator Stephen Cairns spoke at a workshop / lecture organized by the SMU (Singapore Management Universirty) Urban Institute: The Urbanisation Challenge in Asia: The Pasts, Presents and Futures of Densification, Contraction and Sprawl

PhD student Luc Schmid co-authored: "Spatiotemporal assessment of deforestation and forest degradation indicates spillover effects from mining activities and related biodiversity offsets in Madagascar" in Remote Sensing Applications: Society and Environment

Adaptive Mobility, Land Use and Infrastructure

  • Zhuhan Jin, Prof Dr Prateek Bansal, Prof Dr Kay Axhausen submitted their lates research article titled ‘A Novel Approach to Study the Role of Social Networks in Planning Joint Leisure Activities’ to the journal of Transportation Research Part A: Policy and Practice.
