Dear FCL Global community,
The Centre for Liveable Cities (CLC) will be organising the World Cities Summit (WCS) Science of Cities Symposium at the WCS 2026. WCS is an exclusive platform for government leaders and industry experts to address liveable and sustainable city challenges, share integrated urban solutions and forge new partnerships. The 10th edition of the World Cities Summit will be held from 14 to 16 June 2026, in Singapore. Centred on the theme “Liveable and Sustainable Cities: ACT Now!”, WCS 2026 celebrates how cities are transforming through bold leadership and partnerships, to actively shape a more liveable future for all.
The WCS Science of Cities Symposium aims to bring together academic researchers from around the world to share their scientific knowledge, novel research methodologies and insights on current and emerging urban challenges. The symposium will connect scientific theories and urban practice, spur fruitful discussions and engaging debates among academic researchers, urban practitioners, and industry professionals, through high quality presentations on the use of science and technologies for cities.
Held on 14 June 2026, the WCS Science of Cities Symposium will feature two panel sessions:
- Panel 1: From Sensors to Solutions – Data-driven Urban Operating Systems investigates the technological backbone of urban responsiveness, exploring how data-driven approaches are transforming traditional city management into dynamic, interconnected decision-making frameworks. How can cities build integrated data infrastructure that enables intelligent urban operations whilst maintaining security and governance standards? How can urban environments leverage predictive analytics to anticipate and respond to dynamic and emergent challenges? How can technological capabilities enhance human-centric design whilst maintaining human oversight and accountability? This session will examine how spatial intelligence, predictive analytics, sensor networks, and adaptive built environment systems can enable cities to evolve from static planning to real-time, evidence-based governance.
- Panel 2: From Solutions to People – Human-centred Smart Cities explores the social dimensions of responsive cities, examining how technological innovations can strengthen community resilience and enhance quality of life. How do digital urban interventions impact community outcomes, and how can cities identify and address unintended social consequences? How can cities evaluate the effectiveness of smart city initiatives for community wellbeing and social sustainability? How can cities leverage smart solutions to build collaborative ecosystems that enable community-led problem-solving and effective participation in decision-making processes? This session will investigate methods for evaluating smart city initiatives' effectiveness in promoting social resilience, facilitating community participation in urban decision-making, and fostering collaboration between government agencies, citizens, and stakeholders.
CLC welcomes researchers, academics, practitioners, and policymakers to submit abstracts that suit the focus of either/both of the above-mentioned panel sessions. Authors are required to submit their abstracts using the provided template attached in this email. A checklist is also attached, for the authors’ reference to ensure that the required details are in order. The deadline for submission is 16 January 2026.
The submitted abstracts will be reviewed and selected abstracts will be featured via poster format at the WCS Exhibition Area, where the researchers would be invited to give a sharing of their projects during the Poster Exhibition Session. Some researchers may also be invited to present the projects via oral format at the Panel Sessions of the WCS Science of Cities Symposium.
