The FCL Global Dense and Green Cities module will participate in the 2025 iteration of the Time Space Existence exhibition, presenting the module’s latest research on sustainable integrated urban development, illustrating how high-density cities can integrate greenery to enhance liveability, resilience, and environmental performance. Organized by the European Cultural Centre (ECC) in Venice's venues—Palazzo Bembo, Palazzo Mora, and Marinaressa Gardens—this seventh edition brings together a diverse cohort of 207 architects, designers, artists, and researchers from over 52 countries. All contributions are curated under the theme of "Repair, Regenerate, and Reuse" as an exploration of architecture's capacity to engage with critical environmental, social, and cultural challenges. Coinciding with the exhibition, the module will also launch Dense and Green Urban Development (Birkhäuser, 2025), a new book synthesizing its research at FCL Global. This publication explores strategies for embedding nature into urban systems, offering valuable insights for policymakers, designers, and researchers shaping the cities of tomorrow.
Building on previous Dense+Green publications, this book explores sustainable integrated districts as models for high-density, high-liveability cities. It highlights how green elements are strategically deployed and integrated into broader systemic solutions at an urban scale. Beyond identifying key factors for successful spatial implementation, the book examines the planning instruments and governance arrangements enabling such developments across diverse socio-spatial contexts. A collaboration between the Singapore-ETH Centre, SUTD, and ETH Zurich, the publication provides in-depth analyses of international case studies, including one-north in Singapore, King’s Cross in London, and Quayside in Toronto. It also explores urban green development within Zurich’s existing fabric. Find out more at: https://birkhauser.ch/en/book/9783035624564
