Future Cities Laboratory Global started in December 2020 with the unexpected challange to bring together in the middle of the COVID19 pandemic two research hubs separated by 13’000km, 13 different research modules with a variety of approaches, methods and case studies and a diverse community of researchers.
Initially conceptualised as a digital space aimed to integrate the research efforts through a comparative data repository and through innovative methods of communication, dissemination and knowledge exchange, with the lifting of the COVID19 restrictions the Engagement Platform has increased its function of bringing people together in physical places, offering opportunities for new teaching and learning initiatives, workshops and design studios, and in international exhibitions, such as the ECC Venice Biennale of Architecture.
The Engagement Platform is a Cyber-physical space which supports and disseminate the vision, narrative and values of Future Cities Laboratory Global.
As Platform, it creates and promotes a distributed network of people and ecosystems, aimed to optimised the synergies among research modules, between researchers and their stakeholders and between FCL Global and peer research programmes, hubs and institutions. As Cyber-physical space the Engagement Platform supports the scientific activities of FCL Global by offering a digital stage as well as physical spaces to investigate and discover, educate and influence, exchange knowledge and data.
For the 2023 ECC Biennale Architecture in Venice FCL Global has organised an immersive exhibition offering compelling evidence of our programme’s collaborative efforts. For this occasion eight research modules have synthesised and showcased the collective outcomes of their investigations around eight challenges of rapid urbanisation.
The Engagement Platform promote the multidisciplinary of the Future Cities Laboratory Global, whose ultimate goal is to promote more equitable and liveable urban futures by bringing together: Science Design Engineering Governance
Beyond bringing together the FCL Global Community, the Engagement Platform allows its users to continuously feed content into it, facilitating its own growth. Furthermore it is offering opportunities for learning to a wide network of partners and stakeholders.
In 13 years of scientific activities Future Cities Laboratory has produced a significant amount of tools, each with a specific focus and target. The Engagement Platform is now offering an interface federating the different tools and fostering the exchange of raw and derived data.
Through the Engagement Platform it is possible to access a constantly updated list of publications issued by Future Cities Laboratory Global. This includes articles and papers, images and videos, reports and presentations.
